OVERVIEW OF THE COMPETITION
Endurance GB (EGB) is once again offering a Team Endurance Event to affiliated Riding Clubs on a national scale. The competition is now in its fourth year and is growing rapidly.
An affiliated Riding Club can have a "pool" of horse and rider combinations that are interested in competing in endurance, from which any number of teams of three to six riders can be selected. Each Riding Club can then enter their teams into any number of qualifying rides of 30 to 35km (about 20 miles). The qualifying rides can be chosen from over seventy EGB events throughout the country.
Potential riders do not need any special equipment, particular breed or type of horse to get started. Only the rider, their horse and normal riding tack is required. Riders do not have to be members of Endurance GB in order to compete, but they must be current members of their affiliated Riding Club. The Riding Clubs must declare each horse and rider combination with the national organisers before they enter any qualifying ride.
A team who completes a qualifying ride successfully will have its team score entered into a League Table for the Region in which the Club is based. A squad can then, if it chooses, enter a second or subsequent qualifying ride. The team score achieved at the second or subsequent qualifier will replace the existing score in the League Table if it is higher than the existing score. The team scores are calculated from the speed achieved over the course and the horse’s pulse at the final veterinary inspection.
The top team in each League Table for the ten Regions and the top ten teams on a national basis excluding the top ten from the League Tables will be offered a place in the Team Endurance Final at The British Horse Feeds Red Dragon Festival of Endurance on Sunday 6th October 2013. Some wild card places may also be offered at the discretion of the national organisers. Stabling, corralling, camping, lorry parking and refreshments will be available at the venue. Up-to-date Influenza Vaccination Certificates will be required for the final, as specified by British Riding Club rules.
The rules of the competition and full details of the Team Endurance Event can be found on the Rules tab in the top left-hand corner of this home page.
If you have any immediate questions or would like to discuss the event further then please do not hesitate to contact Jane & John Hudson on 01398 332089 (before 9.00pm) or by email to .

How to Declare
All horse and rider combinations who wish to compete in a Riding Club Endurance Team must be declared with the national organisers before entering any EGB or SERC ride. Please read the Team Endurance Event Rules before attempting to declare any horse and rider combinations as there is guidance within the rules which will help to declare correctly. Declarations are free of charge.
A Riding Club can declare any number of combinations to form a pool of riders from which a team or teams can be selected for each EGB or SERC ride.
To declare the horse and rider combinations, start by downloading a Declaration Form (see "What Information is Available" above). Complete a Declaration Form for each combination that would like to compete and either email the forms (if Word versions have been completed electronically) or post them to the national organisers. Click on Contact Us for the necessary contact details. A Mastercard for each of the horse and rider combinations will then be returned to the nominated Team Manager (see Rules).
Please note that a horse and rider combination will NOT be able to compete at an EGB or SERC ride unless they have presented their Mastercard to the Ride Secretary on the day of the ride. So all the horse and rider combinations of the Riding Club squad who are not members of EGB or SERC must be declared with the national organisers well in advance of the first planned ride. However, also note that horse and rider combinations who have declared in previous years and therefore already hold a Mastercard need not declare again.
How to Enter A Ride
Making an Entry
To make an entry, start by downloading an EGB or SERC Entry Form, whichever is appropriate (see "What Information is Available" above). An Entry Form can be downloaded in Word format and completed electronically, or it can be downloaded in pdf (Adobe) format and completed manually. Please complete one Entry Form for each member of the team or teams entering the ride in question. They must then be posted (not emailed please) all in a single envelope, together with a cheque made payable to "Endurance GB" for the total fee due, to the Ride Secretary shown in the Ride Details for the ride you wish to enter (see EGB Rides or SERC Rides). Please do not send ride entries to the national organisers.
You must also include a large SAE with two large envelope stamps affixed, increasing this to three large envelope stamps if there are more than four riders in the team or teams that are entering the ride.
It is also most important that you read the "Special Instructions" section for the ride that the team or teams is entering in case there are any special instructions for your entry. In some cases these instructions will include additional charges that are due and payable as part of the entry fee (such as national park capitation fees for example).
Ride Information Pack
The Ride Secretary will send you a Ride Information Pack for your team(s) about seven to ten days before the ride. This will normally include instructions for the ride itself, a route map, a vet sheet for each of the horses and any other information that may be relevant. Please make sure that you read all the ride information carefully.
STOP PRESS
17th May: Here we go with another update! First of all, the results for the National Forest teams at RAF Cranwell were: The "Foxes" scored 121.83 and the "Badgers" scored 84.99. So the Foxes continue to "blaze the trail" with another high score, consolidating their position at the top of League Table 6 (East Midlands).
This coming weekend we have six teams from four Clubs competing. Clydach and Red Kite TREC (League Table 4, Wales) are travelling to Pen Ddol Y Gader, both of them with two teams. Wessex Classical (League Table 8, South West) are off to Cerne Giant having completed their first competition at Hardy's two weeks ago - very keen!! Finally, Ellen Valley (League Table 1, North West) have managed to secure a late entry to Eildon (a SERC Ride) having heard the sad news that Tebay has been cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch!! Let's hope the weather holds for them all.
12th May: A lot of team results to report now as two or three weeks have passed since the last update. Clydach (League Table 4, Wales) had a successful trip with a team of three to Mynydd Machen on 5th May, scoring 38.26 for what was their first outing in the team event. Red Kite TREC (League Table 4, Wales) also had a good day at the same ride, but sadly neither of their teams were able post a score on this occasion.
Wessex Classical (League Table 8, South West), also on their first outing in the team event with a team of four, went to Hardys on 28th April and did really well to score 60.44.
Three teams went to Wykeham on 28th April. Northallerton (League Table 3, Yorkshire) posted a good score of 65.49 with a team of three, whilst a brand new team of four called The Tykes from White Horse TREC (League Table 6, East Midlands) really enjoyed their day and scored 77.67 into the bargain. Durham (League Table 2, North East) were close behind with another good score of 71.71, putting them second in their League Table.
Ingatestone and Blackmore (League Table 7, East) went off to Cranwich on Sunday 28th April with four combinations and had a great time, scoring 81.47.
At the moment we do not have the official result for RAF Cranwell on 4th May, so we cannot report on the progress of the two teams from National Forest (The Foxes and The Badgers).
26th April: Another quick update on team entries for the weekend of 4th and 5th May. Clydach Riding Club (Swansea) are is new to the competition and are off to Mynydd Machen. They are joined by Red Kite TREC for their second outing of the season (also from Wales). Finally National Forest (East Midlands) are following up on their superb start at Cannock by taking two teams to RAF Cranwell, with the second team being made up of four new combinations. Go for it all of you!
24th April: There is another busy weekend ahead for the BRC Endurance Teams in the KBIS BRC Team Endurance Event. Five teams compete on Sunday 28th April. Northallerton (League Table 8, Yorkshire), White Horse TREC (League Table 2, North East) and Durham (League Table 2, North East) go off to the Wykeham Ride. Meanwhile a new team to the competition, Wessex Classical (League Table 8, South West) go to the Hardys Ride. Finally Ingatestone and Blackmore (League Table 7, South East) travel to Cranwich for their first outing of the season. As usual we hope that all team members have a great day and a successful ride.
24th April: Newquay (League Table 8, South West) had another successful day at St Meubred’s on Sunday 14th April, with two teams completing successfully once again. Their scores of 67.7 (Team A) and 63.79 (Team B) were not, however, high enough to improve on their existing League Table standings.
18th April: A Ready Reckoner showing the score achieved for a given final speed and pulse is now available as a download by left-clicking the tab in the top left-hand corner of the home page.
14th April: The Rules have now been updated to cover The Irish Long Distance Riding Association (ILDRA), so now Riding Clubs in Ireland (Northern and Southern) are all systems go.
12th April: Good news for the KBIS BRC Team Endurance Event - we have recently agreed with the Irish Long Distance Riding Association (ILDRA) that Riding Clubs in Ireland (Northern and Southern) can declare teams with us and enter qualifiers in Ireland under ILDRA rules. We have set up a new League Table (Number 11) for Ireland. We look forward to the final at the British Horse Feeds Red Dragon Ride being an international event now, with teams from England, Wales, Scotland and now Ireland taking part.
10th April: It looks like Newquay (League Table 8, South West) have been bitten by the endurance bug. The Team Manager Bev Etheridge is taking two teams to the Blue Chip St Meubred's Ride on Sunday 14th April, just three weeks after their success at Wadebridge. Keep up the good work Bev!!
9th April: Well done to the ten teams that competed last weekend. At least three combinations from each team completed their ride successfully, so all ten teams posted scores to their respective League Tables. Well done everyone. The League Tables have now been updated
4th April: There are no fewer than ten teams competing this coming weekend representing seven Riding Clubs in the KBIS BRC Team Endurance Event for 2013. This has to be a record for the competition so far.
At the Southdowns Ride on Sunday 7th April we have Bookham Riding Club travelling with a team of five combinations. They are joined at the same ride by Rogate Riding Club (League Table 9, South East), who have entered two teams called The Rogate Renegades and the Rogate Rabble. To add to the party at Southdowns we also have Mid-Sussex Riding Club (League Table 7, East) going along, again with two teams, called Mid-Sussex Chaos and Mid-Sussex Canter On.
We have four Clubs going to the Durham Valleys Ride, again on Sunday 7th April. Sunniside Riding Club (League Table 2, North East) has entered two teams called Sunniside Black and Sunniside Blue. They are joined by Barnard Castle and Teesdale Riding Club (League Table 2, North East), Ellen Valley Riding Club (League Table 1, North West) and Durham Riding Club (League Table 2, North East), all of whom are competing with one team each.
We wish all ten teams the best of luck and, most of all, fine and perhaps slightly warmer weather.
1st April: Newquay Riding Club (League Table 8, South West) had a very successful day at Wadebridge on Sunday 24th March. Two teams competed, scoring 90.40 and 74.35. Congratulations to Newquay on such a great result, especially for their first attempt at the team event.
21st March: A bit of a catch up now on team scores first of all. East Cheshire (League Table 1, North West) achieved a score of 60.2 at Spring Cannock Chase on 9th March. National Forest (League Table 6, East Midlands) competed at Cannock, posting an impressive score of 118.1.
Red Kite TREC (League Table 4, Wales) travelled to Wentwood in Spring with a small team of three combinations but still managed to achieve a good score of 74.4. White Horse TREC (League Table 6, East Midlands) went off to Major Oak on 17th March with a team of four and returned a score of 89.1 on what we believe was a fairly cold and wet day. Congratulations to all the teams that have made an early start to the season.
Now for this coming weekend! Newquay Riding Club (League Table 8, South West), new to the competition this year, are taking two teams of four combinations each plus one individual to Wadebridge in Cornwall. Ingatestone & Blackmore (League Table 7, East), who are now in their third season of the competition, are off to Kings Forest in Suffolk with a team of four. Let's hope the weather is kind to all three teams.
20th March: We have introduced a new special award for the highest placed combination competing as an individual at the Final with a cash prize of £100.
20th March: After much discussion with the Team Managers from the Riding Clubs that competed last year, we have reverted to the previous scoring rules that are based on four combinations in a team with the best three scores to count. We have also dropped the five point penalty for EGB members competing above Novice Level and for SERC members competing at above BTQ Level. The current rules can be found by clicking on Rules.
15th March: Congratulations to East Cheshire (League Table 1, North West) and National Forest (League Table 6, East Midlands) in a successful day at Spring Cannock Chase last weekend. In particular all five of National Forest's combinations completed successfully. A great start to the season for both teams. This weekend sees White Horse TREC travelling to Major Oak with a team of four. We wish them well.
9th March: Added a list of other information available from the organisers - see OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION above, available on request by emailing to
6th March: The National Forest Riding Club (League Table 6, East Midlands) will join East Cheshire at Spring Cannock Chase on 9th March with a team of five combinations, so we have an excellent start to the team event on 2013. Good luck to both teams.

10th February: East Cheshire Riding Club (League Table 1, North West) are quickly out of the blocks this season - they have entered Spring Cannock Chase on 9th March with a team of four combinations.
9th February: Added an Overview of the Competition has been added to the home page above.
27th January: Clarification of one paragraph of the rules, under Section 2.1, Declaration of Horse and Rider Combinations. The new paragraph is shown in blue in the Rules, but it reads as follows:
A rider must be a member of an affiliated Riding Club to be part of a team, but they do not have to be a member of EGB or SERC. However if any riders in a team are members of EGB or SERC, then only two of them can be above EGB's Novice Level or above SERC's BTQ Level. A trophy will be awarded to the highest placed team in the Final that has no EGB or SERC members and no EGB or SERC registered horses.
